Rask oppsummering

Type medisin

Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) containing estradiol, a natural oestrogen.

Fungerer ved

Oestrogel contains estradiol, an oestrogen identical to that naturally produced by the ovaries. It works by restoring oestrogen levels in postmenopausal women, helping to relieve symptoms related to hormonal deficiency such as hot flushes, night sweats, vaginal dryness, and sleep disturbances.

Virksomt stoff

Estradiol

Effektiv innen

You may notice some relief within the first few weeks, but it typically takes 8 to 12 weeks of treatment to fully restore the vaginal tissue and eliminate dryness or pain. Consistency is key.

Generisk?

Yes

Bivirkninger

Because the dose is so low and localized, side effects are rare and usually mild. Common: Mild vaginal irritation, itching, or increased discharge during the first few weeks as the tissue heals. Rare: Headache or abdominal pain. The risk of blood clots or cancer with local estrogen like Vagirux is considered negligible compared to systemic HRT.

Medisindetaljer

Beskrivelse

Vagirux er en målrettet "lokal" hormonerstatningsterapi (HRT) spesielt utviklet for å behandle vaginal tørrhet, irritasjon og smertefullt samleie forårsaket av overgangsalderen.

Hver liten tablett inneholder 10 mikrogram estradiol.

Ingredienser

Active ingredient: Estradiol hemihydrate (10 micrograms). Excipients: Hypromellose, lactose monohydrate, maize starch, magnesium stearate, macrogol 6000.

Bivirkninger

Breast tenderness, bloating, nausea, headaches, mood changes, or light vaginal bleeding may occur.
Less commonly: fluid retention, skin rashes, weight gain, or irritation at the application site.
Contact a doctor immediately if you experience chest pain, shortness of breath, jaundice, or sudden swelling of the legs.

Advarsler

Do not use Oestrogel if you have breast cancer, endometrial cancer, unexplained vaginal bleeding, a history of thromboembolic disease, or severe liver disease.

In women with an intact uterus, treatment must be combined with a progestogen for 12 to 14 days per 28-day cycle to reduce the risk of endometrial hyperplasia.

Contact your doctor immediately if you experience chest pain, shortness of breath, swelling of the legs, or jaundice.

Ofte stilte spørsmål

How is this different from Oestrogel?

Oestrogel is a "systemic" HRT that treats whole-body symptoms like hot flushes and night sweats. Vagirux is a "local" HRT that only treats vaginal dryness and discomfort. Many women use both together: Oestrogel for the hot flushes, and Vagirux for extra comfort "down there."

Can I have sex while using this?

Yes. Vagirux helps restore comfort, making sex less painful. It is recommended to insert the tablet after sexual activity (before sleep) to ensure it stays in place and is not dislodged.

Can I use lubricants while using Vagirux?

Yes. You can safely use non-hormonal lubricants or moisturizers alongside Vagirux, especially during sexual activity or while waiting for the treatment to take full effect.

Do I need to take Progesterone with this?

Generally, No. Because the dose of hormone is very low and stays within the vaginal tissue, it does not usually thicken the womb lining. Therefore, most women do not need to take an additional progesterone capsule (like Utrogestan) when using Vagirux alone.

Is this messy to use?

No. Unlike creams or gels which can sometimes leak, Vagirux is a small "dry" tablet that adheres to the vaginal wall and dissolves slowly. It is generally considered a clean and mess-free solution.
