Giuseppe describes himself as closed off. He avoided going out, avoided socializing, “because I didn’t feel very appreciated. First of all by myself. And then I thought others might not appreciate me either.”
Summers were the hardest: “It was rare that I’d go to the sea, because I’d have to put on a swimsuit.”
Turning down invitations. Skipping the beach. Wearing the same safe clothes. It rarely happens all at once, the world just quietly shrinks. And underneath it is a loop Giuseppe knew well: feeling low drives the eating, and the eating drives feeling low. That loop is biological as much as emotional, which is why willpower alone so rarely breaks it, and why a medically supervised programme starts with the biology.
